Just a few short years ago, one of the main environmental initiatives was centered around reducing the carbon footprint. Virtually every individual and corporation was made aware of how their daily activities impacted the planet. Widespread calls to action included energy-efficient lighting and technology, recycling, and various waste reduction methods. The effectiveness of those efforts was due in large part to quick adoption across the board

Lessons From the Past
Today, new initiatives for streamlining environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) make it easy for smaller companies to comply and function with ever-changing guidelines. As further research is conducted, new suggestions are made available to public entities. Recommendations are issued based on the most updated information available at the time of the report. Regulatory guidelines change periodically, and companies can earn credits in a number of different ways. Strategic ESG plans that feature carbon reduction agendas support both environmental improvements as well as corporate initiatives.

Looking Forward
Decades of research performed by organizations dedicated to environmental awareness causes have produced volumes of information that individuals and businesses are now using across multiple industries. Top researchers continually study the success of past initiatives to fully understand what worked well in the past and how those techniques can most effectively be implemented. As a result, new recommendations are constantly on the horizon. Environmental protection groups are finally submitting reports that point to good news on the horizon. Air quality, Ozone replenishment, and marine life preservation are just a few improvements that directly resulted from focus and action by families and corporations.

Business Leadership
Corporate business strategies that incorporate ESG initiatives into their mission and vision statements are able to accomplish several important items. First, they are creating a workforce culture that prioritizes environmental concerns such as supplying clean energy and preventing species extinction. Second, these businesses are getting environmental credits while also demonstrating a commitment to their community. Attention to social causes is a natural progression after a company demonstrates a commitment to the environment. Employees and business leadership executives will choose which ESG initiatives to include in annual strategic planning initiatives.
